Charli XCX Joins Scorsese's Psychological Horror 'What Happens at Night'
The pop singer is set for a cameo role alongside an A-list cast in the upcoming film.
Charli XCX is reportedly set to make a cameo appearance in Martin Scorsese's forthcoming psychological horror film, "What Happens at Night." The Grammy-nominated singer, known for her successful music career, is expanding her acting portfolio by joining a cast that includes Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as actors Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris.
The film's plot centers on an American couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby, where their experiences become increasingly unsettling, leading them to question their relationship and their own identities. Details regarding Charli XCX's specific character remain under wraps.
This collaboration follows a previous connection between the artist and Scorsese, who appeared on the cover of Charli's "Music, Fashion, Film" project. While Charli XCX has had previous acting roles, primarily voice work in animated films like "The Angry Birds Movie" (2016) and "UglyDolls" (2019), she has recently moved into more substantial live-action roles. Her recent acting credits include appearances in "Erupcja," "100 Nights of Hero and Sacrifice," "The Moment," "Faces of Death," "I Want Your Sex," and "The Gallerist," with most scheduled for release in 2026.
"What Happens at Night" is described as a Gothic psychological horror. This venture marks a significant step for Charli XCX's acting aspirations, placing her alongside acclaimed filmmakers and actors in a genre film.
In recent personal news, Charli XCX had to cancel a performance in Glendale, Arizona, on October 21 due to illness that caused her to lose her voice. She expressed her deep disappointment to fans on Instagram Stories, stating that she puts everything into her performances and was unable to proceed. While refunds were offered, she reassured fans she would return to Arizona in the future. Her scheduled show in Las Vegas on October 23 was slated to proceed as planned. The singer is currently resting before the final show of her "Music, Fashion, Film" tour, which is set to conclude in Paris in February 2027.
