Celine Dion Revives Iconic Oscars Gown and Recalls Titanic Moment
The singer wore a reimagined Chanel creation and sported a diamond necklace reminiscent of her 'My Heart Will Go On' performance.
Celine Dion recently donned a recreated version of the sparkling Chanel gown she first wore to the 1997 Academy Awards for her performances in Paris. The updated couture gown, embellished with thousands of jewels and beads, was reinterpreted by Chanel's creative director Matthieu Blazy.
Accompanying the gown was an 18-karat white gold Chanel Comète necklace, set with 1,080 diamonds totaling over 67 carats. The asymmetrical design evokes a shooting star. The original gown, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, and its accompanying starry necklace were a memorable red-carpet moment.
Dion performed "Because You Loved Me" and "I Finally Found Someone" at the 1997 Oscars. The following year, she won an Academy Award for performing "My Heart Will Go On" from the film Titanic, wearing a replica of the film's "Heart of the Ocean" necklace.
In related news, Dion has been honored with a Barbie doll that pays tribute to the navy dress and "Heart of the Ocean" necklace she wore during her 1998 Oscars performance of "My Heart Will Go On." She expressed that it is a "true honor to join the Barbie legacy" and hopes the doll inspires self-expression and confidence.
This comes as Dion continues her residency in Paris, returning to the stage after her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). She recently shared that she has decided to make her health battle "my reason for living."
During a recent Paris performance, Dion experienced moments of emotion, briefly forgetting lyrics and losing her balance while singing. The audience supported her through these instances, and she recovered to complete her performances. A representative for Dion has been contacted for comment.
