Celine Dion Recreates Iconic 1997 Oscars Look in Chanel Couture

Céline Dion recently took to the stage in Paris wearing a custom Chanel couture gown that paid homage to her memorable 1997 Oscars red carpet look. The ensemble featured a strapless sweetheart neckline, a corseted top, and a flared silk skirt with a high front slit, all adorned with thousands of glass crystal rhinestones and beads.

Designed by Matthieu Blazy, the gown required 1,380 hours of work from Chanel's in-house couturiers and was embellished with approximately 6,000 jewels and 5,000 beads that tapered from the bodice to the hips, creating a celestial effect. The neckline was accented with navy raffia trim offering a tinsel-like texture.

Dion complemented the gown with Chanel's diamond and white gold Fil de Comète necklace. This piece, featuring a shooting star design, is an interpretation of a motif from Gabrielle Chanel’s 1932 High Jewelry collection. The re-created necklace features 1,080 diamonds totaling over 67 carats.

In 1997, Dion wore a similar gown designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, distinguished by a plunging neckline. That same night, she made history by performing two songs at the Academy Awards, stepping in for Natalie Cole at the last minute. Dion's Paris residency is scheduled to conclude with two final performances this weekend before she takes a hiatus until May.
