Celebrity Traitors Season Marked by Blunders from Grant, Lycett, and McNally
This season of The Celebrity Traitors has seen multiple contestants make significant errors that have led to early eliminations.
The latest season of The Celebrity Traitors is proving to be one of the most error-prone in the show's history, with three prominent contestants—Richard E. Grant, Joe Lycett, and Joanne McNally—making notable mistakes that have jeopardized their game.
The core rule of The Traitors is to avoid arousing suspicion, a principle that has seemingly been overlooked by several players this season. Richard E. Grant, upon being chosen as a Traitor, immediately revealed his identity to fellow contestant Joe Lycett. Despite some speculation that Grant might be employing a double-bluff strategy, he was swiftly banished in the first round table vote, becoming the earliest Traitor to be caught in the show's history.
Grant admitted his mistake, stating, "That may be the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life." He explained that his excitement at being chosen as a Traitor led to a loss of self-control. "I gave it to them on a platter," he remarked in his exit interview, describing his actions as "catastrophically idiotic."
Following Grant's early exit, comedians Joanne McNally and Joe Lycett also made comments that drew suspicion, even though both were Faithfuls. McNally inadvertently drew attention to herself by discussing Rob Beckett's face-to-face murder as if she had witnessed it directly. Although she attempted to backtrack, claiming she was referring to other players' discussions, her words led to her becoming a target in a subsequent round table.
Joe Lycett's downfall came from his persistent desire to be recruited as a Traitor. He openly spoke to multiple contestants about his wish to switch sides. While he did not achieve his goal, as Maya Jama and James Acaster ultimately recruited King Kenny instead, his open discussion of recruitment strategies and the possibility of his own elimination contributed to the suspicion against him.
During a roundtable discussion, Lycett articulated a scenario that revealed his own intentions and suspicions. "Let's say they were down to two last night and they recruited, there's so much heat on me for what I was doing last night that there's a good chance that I'll go tonight, which means that they will then have to recruit again tonight, denying them of murder," he explained. This statement, along with his previous comments, ultimately sealed his fate, leading to his banishment. Notably, Miranda Hart expressed her reluctance to vote for Lycett, stating she "physically couldn't write your name down."
In his exit interview, Lycett expressed disappointment at not being selected as a Traitor, stating, "I always wanted to start as a Faithful and end as a Traitor. I started as a Faithful, and I did not get my wish. I am a Faithful."
