Celebrity Traitors Returns with a New Cast of 21 Stars

The second season of "Celebrity Traitors" is set to premiere next week, featuring 21 new celebrity contestants who will navigate a game of deception and deduction within a castle setting. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the show challenges a group of famous individuals, known as 'faithfuls,' to identify the 'traitors' among them who secretly eliminate contestants each night.

Last year's iteration of the show garnered significant attention, including a BAFTA award for a memorable TV moment. The season concluded with traitor Alan Carr successfully deceiving his fellow contestants to win.

This year's cast includes a range of personalities from comedy, acting, broadcasting, and music. Comedians such as Joe Lycett, James Acaster, Romesh Ranganathan, Rob Beckett, Miranda Hart, and Joanne McNally are expected to bring humor and potential misdirection to the game. Lycett, known for his quick wit and political stunts, has reportedly sought advice from Carr on identifying traitors. Acaster, a fan of the show, expressed a preference for playing as a faithful, citing his own discomfort with lying.

Prominent figures from the entertainment world also join the cast. Actor Michael Sheen, acclaimed for his versatile roles, is considered a major contender and will likely face intense scrutiny. Also participating are actors Richard E. Grant and Jerry Hall, who may initially impress or intimidate less-known contestants. Broadcasting powerhouses Maya Jama, host of "Love Island," and Amol Rajan, host of "University Challenge," bring their interviewing and investigative skills to the game. Rajan stated his intention to build alliances and keep a low profile initially, acknowledging his profession requires him to pursue answers.

Other contestants include actor Ross Kemp, known for his roles in "EastEnders" and various documentaries, and singer James Blunt. Leigh-Anne Pinnock, formerly of Little Mix, is also set to compete, leveraging her experience managing relationships under public pressure. Bella Ramsey, known for "The Last of Us" and "Game of Thrones," is among the younger contestants, having played similar games since childhood and plans to be instinctive and perceptive.

YouTube collective member King Kenny will represent the influencer sphere, hoping for a better outcome than his Beta Squad colleague Niko Omilana, who was eliminated early last season. The casting of Omilana's early exit last year sparked discussions about potential bias against non-white contestants on reality shows.

Mathematician and broadcaster Hannah Fry aims to fulfill the 'nerd quota' and takes her participation seriously, anticipating her perceived intelligence might make her a target. US actress Myha'la, known for her role in "Industry," aims to play as a traitor and has consciously altered her appearance to distinguish herself from her on-screen character. Julie Hesmondhalgh, a veteran soap actress, and Sharon Rooney, known for "My Mad Fat Diary" and "Barbie," are also contestants who may employ subtle strategies. Sebastian Croft, from the Netflix series "Heartstopper," rounds out the cast, potentially posing an unknown factor to older contestants.

"Celebrity Traitors" premieres on BBC One and iPlayer on Thursday, Thursday, October 1. The show features contestants competing for a £100,000 prize to be donated to their chosen charities.
