Cara Delevingne Recreates Gwyneth Paltrow's Iconic Velvet Suit Look

Cara Delevingne paid homage to Gwyneth Paltrow's memorable 1996 MTV VMAs fashion moment by sporting a shirtless purple velvet pantsuit at Tom Ford’s Paris Fashion Week show on Wednesday.

Paltrow's original crimson velvet suit, designed by Tom Ford for Gucci, featured a striking silhouette that has since become iconic. Delevingne's modern interpretation, designed by Haider Ackermann, featured a plunging neckline and a similar sharp tailoring, accessorized with pops of red in her clutch, pointed-toe pumps, belt, and manicure.

The ensemble evoked Paltrow's 1996 appearance, where she paired the red velvet suit with a light blue satin shirt and scarlet platform heels. Paltrow herself later embraced a modern iteration of the look, wearing a version designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci's centennial collection in 2021, which she described as "beautiful tailoring that never goes out of style."

Delevingne's fashion choice aligns with her recent ventures into music, including the release of her debut album, "Not Normal," and her late-night performance debut on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." She also appeared in Taylor Swift's "Patient Zero" music video, which premiered during the VMAs, marking 30 years after Paltrow's original velvet suit moment at the same awards show.
