British GQ Spotlights Rising UK Talent in "New Blood" Issue
The latest issue of British GQ features emerging stars from across the UK, moving away from traditional showbiz figures.
British GQ's November issue, titled "New Blood," is shifting its focus from established stars to the next generation of emerging talent from across the United Kingdom. Under the direction of new editor Murray Clark, the magazine aims to celebrate homegrown artists and creators who are making their mark outside of London.
The "New Blood" issue features a diverse group of individuals, including "Heartstopper" actor Joe Locke, 23, from the Isle of Man, and Chelsea and England footballer Morgan Rogers, 24, from Halesowen. The issue highlights that success is not confined to the capital, showcasing talent from various regions.
Locke, who gained recognition for his role in the Netflix teen drama, shared that he returned to school after filming the first season, finding his home on the Isle of Man a grounding influence. "Most people in the Isle of Man couldn't give less of a sh*t. It's great, because I can just go home and be Helen's son, Joe, again," he told GQ.
Rogers emphasized the significance of seeing regional success stories. "Because Birmingham's smaller in that sense, there are less models to relate to, so the ones that do make it, they're role models instantly," he stated. IMAGE1
Other individuals featured include actor Matthew Broome, 25, from Bedford, who pursued acting while keeping his ambitions private from friends. IMAGE2 Rapper Nemzzz, 22, from Gorton in east Manchester, expressed his commitment to his hometown, stating, "I'll be in and out of there (London), man. But I'll never move. I'd never leave Manchester. No chance." IMAGE5 Actor Harry Collett, 22, from Essex, spoke about the grounding effect of living with his parents while filming "House of the Dragon." IMAGE4
Influencer Italian Bach, 26, whose real name is Isaac Smith, finds inspiration in his countryside roots. "I'm still a countryside guy. I moved to London, but found myself coming back, because I think being here unlocks a creative element in my brain," he said. IMAGE7 Rapper DC3, 19, from Northampton, also discussed the challenges of an industry concentrated in London, noting, "You get connections. I think if I was in London, I'd end up just doing what everyone is doing." IMAGE6
Beyond individual profiles, the November issue also explores Manchester's rise as a hub for fashion upcycling and features Scottish actor and writer Ruraidh Mollica in Edinburgh.
Murray Clark, who became British GQ's editor in May, stated, "At British GQ, we wanted to celebrate this new cohort that comes from all across the country." IMAGE8 The "New Blood" issue is available on newsstands and digitally starting October 27.
