Bleach Anime Series Concludes After 22-Year Run
Fans express emotional goodbyes as the popular anime's "Thousand-Year Blood War" storyline reaches its finale.
The popular anime series Bleach is officially concluding its 22-year run with the finale of its "Thousand-Year Blood War" storyline. The ending has been highly anticipated by fans who have followed the journey of Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager with the ability to see ghosts who defends humanity from evil spirits. Original creator Tite Kubo has overseen narrative adjustments to the "disappointing" comic book arc, which have been positively received.
Bleach is considered one of Japan's "big three" manga, alongside One Piece and Naruto, and its animated adaptations have contributed significantly to the global popularity of anime. For many, the series has been a long-standing source of comfort and connection.
"It is honestly my favourite series of all time, it has got me through a lot across my life," said Ruby Ebbs, 27, who started reading Bleach at age nine. She met fellow fan Nicholas Thong, 30, through their shared passion for the series.
"I've made so many friends through Bleach, it's been such a wonderful part of my life both in terms of what it teaches me and the kind of people I meet through it," Ebbs added. Thong recalled how discussing Bleach with classmates helped him make friends in school.
Both Ebbs and Thong described the upcoming finale as an emotional event, with Ebbs stating, "A lot of us are feeling quite emotional about it."
Fans are reportedly preparing for an emotional farewell to the creation of Tite Kubo, with high hopes that the narrative conclusion will satisfy long-time viewers. The series has been a significant cultural touchstone for a generation of anime enthusiasts worldwide.
