Billie Eilish Debuts Strawberry Blonde Bob, Fans React Positively
The singer surprised followers on Instagram with a dramatic hair transformation.
Billie Eilish has surprised fans by debuting a new short strawberry blonde bob haircut in an Instagram post on Thursday. The 24-year-old singer ditched her signature long black hair for the change, which was accompanied by audio from the 1994 Pavement song "Cut Your Hair."
Fans quickly reacted to the transformation with a wave of positive comments, including "Obsessed," "perfect," and "Okkk Billlieeee." Many expressed that the new style suited her well.
Eilish appears to be enjoying some downtime following a period of filming for "The Bell Jar," where she is set to make her acting debut. In the film, she portrays Esther Greenwood, a 19-year-old college student who experiences a downward spiral into depression after taking an internship at a New York City magazine in 1953.
Eilish has previously spoken about her style choices, explaining that her preference for loose-fitting, often oversized clothing stems from experiencing "gender euphoria." She told Elle that she had a "really, really toxic relationship with my body" and experienced "a lot of eating issues," finding relief in wearing larger garments. She also cited hip-hop artists Missy Elliott and Tyler, The Creator as style influences, mentioning her "love for hip-hop culture and wanting to be a man" as factors in her aesthetic.
"The Bell Jar," based on Sylvia Plath's novel, follows Esther's journey through clinical depression, a suicide attempt, and hospitalization. The narrative explores themes of identity and societal pressures within a patriarchal structure. The book has long been considered semi-autobiographical, with Plath having had a similar internship experience in 1953.
Directed by Sarah Polley, the film also features Carey Mulligan as Eilish's mother. Connor Storrie is also rumored to be part of the cast.
