Baywatch Reboot Trailer Met With Fan Derision, Brooks Nader Channels Pamela Anderson

The debut trailer for the new Baywatch reboot series has been met with widespread criticism from viewers on social media platforms, with many questioning the necessity of another iteration of the franchise. Simultaneously, actress Brooks Nader attended the MIPCOM event, donning an outfit inspired by Pamela Anderson's memorable ensemble from the 1996 film "Barbed Wire."

Nader, 29, appeared at a panel to unveil the trailer, sporting a low-cut leather corset and matching trousers, evoking Anderson's distinctive style. The ensemble was completed with thigh-high heeled boots.

The trailer itself featured nods to the original 1990s series, including slow-motion running sequences on the beach. However, viewers took to social media, with one user commenting, "it's giving cancelled after 1 season," while another expressed fatigue with constant reboots: "they're rebooting everything huh."

The new series stars Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff's original character. Other cast members include Shay Mitchell, TikTok influencer Noah Beck, and Livvy Dunne. Jessica Belkin plays Charlie, Hobie's long-lost daughter. Some original cast members are also returning, including Erika Eleniak, Mary McDonnell, and Kelly Packard. Michael Bergin, who was part of the classic series, is also set to return.

Fan reactions to the trailer were largely negative. "I have to ask why? Who needed a 'baywatch' reboot?" one user lamented, while another criticized the perceived tone: "the first baywatch ran for 11 seasons and now we get a reboot that looks like a hallmark movie with sirens."

Concerns were also raised about the acting abilities of some cast members, with particular attention drawn to Noah Beck. One user noted that while Beck "is hot and all but really can’t act to save his life." Other comments included "Looks horrible lol," "lol no thanks," and "I'm already bored."

The original Baywatch series premiered in 1989, was canceled by NBC after one season, but later found success in syndication, becoming a major hit in the 1990s. The franchise has since spawned a sequel series, "Baywatch: Hawaii," a spin-off "Baywatch Nights," and several direct-to-video films. A 2017 theatrical film starring Dwayne Johnson was met with both critical and commercial disappointment.

The reboot series is helmed by "Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix and is slated for a January premiere on Fox. The trailer also reportedly included a brief cameo by Megan Thee Stallion.
