Barry Keoghan Discusses Undergoing Cosmetic Skin-Tightening Procedure
The actor shared his experience with a XERF treatment, citing a desire for self-care amidst online criticism.
Actor Barry Keoghan has confirmed he underwent a cosmetic procedure to tighten his skin, a decision he attributes to self-care and a response to online criticism about his appearance. Keoghan, known for his roles in "Eternals" and "Saltburn," shared his experience in a video posted by skin expert Nilam Holmes.
In the video, Keoghan is seen receiving a XERF treatment, described by the clinic Dermaspa as a noninvasive procedure designed to improve mild to moderate skin laxity. "I feel better about myself. I look better, and I think it’s important to look after yourself inside and outside," Keoghan stated in a voiceover. He noted that it was his second XERF treatment and that he found the visits relaxing and therapeutic.
Holmes, founder of Dermaspa, mentioned in her caption that Keoghan's skin had improved over time and that he had offered to let her film the procedure. According to Dermaspa's website, XERF is a comfortable treatment that does not require needles or numbing cream. While noticeable results can be seen after one session, two treatments are recommended for extended benefits. A single face and neck session is priced at approximately $3,300, with two treatments costing around $6,000.
The actor's disclosure prompted a varied reaction from fans. Some expressed that he didn't need the procedure, while others praised his "glow-up" and transparency. "His skin looks absolutely flawless & brand new," one commenter wrote.
Keoghan, an Oscar nominee for his role in "The Banshees of Inisherin," has previously spoken about the online hate and criticism he has faced regarding his appearance. In March, he revealed in a SiriusXM interview that the negativity had made him reclusive, causing him to withdraw from social events.
He also addressed rumors of infidelity that surfaced around the time of his split from ex-girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter. Keoghan stated that these unconfirmed rumors led him to stop socializing. "A narrative that’s not true and I never confirmed or said anything about it, and I just disappeared," he explained on the "Friends Keep Secrets" podcast.
Looking ahead, Keoghan is set to portray the Joker in "The Batman: Part II," scheduled for release in 2028. He has also been seen in costume as Ringo Starr for Sam Mendes' upcoming four-part film series about The Beatles.
