A new food offering at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium, a fusion of a Vietnamese Bahn Mi and a traditional hot dog, has drawn mixed reactions from Australian Rules Football fans and social media users.

The "Bahn Mi Hot Dog" was introduced as part of an effort to diversify and enhance the food options available at the stadium.

Social media platforms have become a focal point for the debate, with videos of the item circulating and sparking discussion. One video featured on the Australian meal-kit service Ahh Maa, run by Matt and Amy, showcased the stadium's creation. In the clip, Amy shows the Bahn Mi Hot Dog to her father, who expresses immediate disapproval, calling it "horrible."

When Matt and his mother tried the stadium's version, his mother offered a concise "no" after tasting it, and Matt rated it "three out of 10," suggesting it might only be palatable if one were extremely hungry.

The item also appeared on the Facebook page "Vietnamese Banh Mi Appreciation Society," where members shared their critical views. Comments ranged from labeling it a "Temu Banh Mi" to stating that "anyone who appreciates Banh Mi would not go within 10 foot of these bad boys."

The internet has been left divided by Banh Mi Hot Dogs being served at the footy at Marvel Stadium

Some online commenters drew parallels to the controversy surrounding pineapple on pizza. However, not all reactions were negative. A thread on Reddit saw some users expressing willingness to try the fusion dish, with one commenter specifying that they would try it "as long as the Banh Mi isn't soggy and is crispy when you bite into it." Others expressed strong reservations, arguing that a dish cannot simply be called a Bahn Mi by adding common elements like shredded carrot and coriander to a roll.
