Autograph Hunter Apologizes to Harry Styles After New York Altercation

An autograph hunter involved in a public dispute with singer Harry Styles has issued a formal apology, stating that the artist remained composed and even helped calm him down. The individual, identified as Giovanni, posted a statement to Instagram on Friday taking full responsibility for the recent exchange.

The incident occurred earlier this week in New York City, where Styles, 32, was seen engaging in a heated argument with Giovanni, who was holding a stack of records for the singer to sign. Video of the encounter showed the two pointing fingers at each other, after which Giovanni pursued Styles and his bodyguard.

Giovanni clarified that Styles "did not lose his cool" during the altercation. "He stayed calm and even helped calm me down," Giovanni stated. He explained that he was having a bad day and was "out of line," emphasizing that the headlines suggesting Styles lost his temper were inaccurate.

"Harry was actually totally chill about the whole situation and even helped calm me down," Giovanni added. "The headlines suggesting Harry lost his cool couldn't be further than the truth. If anything, I was the one who needed to cool down." He concluded by sincerely apologizing to Styles, asserting that the singer "deserves nothing but respect."

Styles, a former member of One Direction, is often seen in public spaces in London and when visiting the U.S. Earlier this week, he was observed wearing a navy jumper, grey baseball cap, and sunglasses, seemingly seeking increased privacy.

The encounter follows Styles' recent comments about how an "outgoing" girlfriend helped him overcome his fear of being in public. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Styles recounted how a past partner's desire to explore the city led him to realize it was safe to be outside, which he described as having significantly changed his life and helped him stay "connected to the world."
