Ashley Jensen and Mark Bonnar Reunite for New Scottish Comedy 'Rambling'
The 'Catastrophe' co-stars are set to play mismatched walking companions in a new BBC comedy filming in Scotland.
Scottish actors Ashley Jensen and Mark Bonnar are collaborating once again for a new comedy series titled "Rambling." The pair, known for their roles as a fraught couple in the Channel 4 sitcom "Catastrophe," will now portray decidedly mismatched walking buddies.
The new comedy, written by Iain Connell and Sharon Young, is currently being filmed in rural Scotland. A promotional image captures Bonnar, as the character Gerry, and Jensen, as Cat, smiling together on the shore of a Scottish loch.
The plot is set to revolve around Gerry's organized nature clashing with Cat's chaotic personality. Gerry is on a mission to fulfill a promise made to his late brother, while Cat joins him seeking a fresh start after being expelled from another walking group.
This marks the second on-screen pairing for Jensen and Bonnar, both 57. In "Catastrophe," Bonnar played Chris, the acerbic husband of Jensen's character, Fran.
Bonnar expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I’m so thrilled to be doing this beautifully written, very funny script by Iain and Sharon. I’ve never played someone quite like Gerry before and I can’t wait to get cracking. On top of that, to be reunited with the wonderful Ashley Jensen! Doesn’t get any better."
Jensen shared her excitement, describing the script as "about nothing and everything. It’s smart, honest, poignant, moving and funny. It’s about loss, loneliness, and our need for connection." She added, "I started my career with the BBC Comedy unit a long time ago, so I am delighted to return and be part of Rambling and to be reunited with the talented Mark Bonnar along with a resilient and incredibly skilled crew with whom we will be braving the Scottish elements to bring this beautiful special to life."
Jensen gained wider recognition for her role in Ricky Gervais's "Extras" in 2005, earning two British Comedy Awards and a BAFTA nomination. She later moved to Los Angeles for the US series "Ugly Betty" before returning to the UK for "Catastrophe." Her other notable roles include Gervais's Netflix series "After Life" and the BBC crime drama "Shetland."
Bonnar has also had a distinguished career, with notable performances including DCC Dryden in the police drama "Line of Duty," barrister Colin Osborne in "Unforgotten," and lawyer Max McCall in "Guilt."
