Actress Anna Friel shared her pride as her daughter, Gracie, performed for the first time at the Latitude Festival on Sunday. Friel, 50, posted behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram documenting the event.
Gracie, 21, is the only child of Friel and her ex-partner, actor David Thewlis. She bears a striking resemblance to her mother and is pursuing a music career, rather than acting, despite growing up around film sets. "She doesn’t. Her dad’s such a fine actor, she’s grown up on so many sets, she loves the creative world but she’s more into her music," Friel previously told The Mail.
Friel's Instagram post included a message of encouragement for her daughter: "Latituuuuude festival vibes. Couldn’t be more proud of @gracie_friel my baba playing her first ever festival. Go Gracie. Here is to you. Entering the year of 21 with elegance, discipline, joy and wonder. I love love love you."
Fans commented on the posts, with one writing, "There’s nothing like a mother’s beaming pride and joy at her daughter’s achievements!" Others praised Gracie's talent, calling her voice "lovely" and her songs "beautiful."
Gracie made her singing debut in November of the previous year, opening for indie artist Nell Mescal at The Fleece in Bristol. A source close to Gracie at the time described the gig as "huge" and noted that opening for Mescal, whom she admires, meant a great deal to her. The source also stated that Friel and Thewlis were "incredibly proud" and aware of her hard work in pursuing her singing career.
The Latitude Festival is an annual four-day music and arts event held at Henham Park in Suffolk, England. The Bristol venue where Gracie previously performed has hosted notable artists such as Radiohead, Oasis, Amy Winehouse, and Ed Sheeran.
