Amber Heard Enjoys Secluded Spanish Life, Dines at Michelin-Starred Restaurant
The actress is embracing a quieter existence in Spain, focusing on family and personal pursuits away from the Hollywood spotlight.
Amber Heard is forging a new, more private life in Spain, recently sharing a glimpse of her secluded existence with a dinner at a three Michelin star restaurant. The actress, 40, posted an image of herself perusing a wine list at El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, where a tasting menu can cost upwards of €315 (approximately $340 USD) per person.
"Now this is my kind of wine list," Heard captioned the Instagram post, indicating a continued appreciation for fine dining. This public display offers a rare look into her life since relocating from Los Angeles to Madrid.
Heard has focused on solo parenting since welcoming her daughter Oonagh and later twins Ocean and Agnes. She previously stated her desire to raise her children "on my own terms." The actress has largely remained out of the public eye since settling a defamation lawsuit with her ex-husband Johnny Depp in December 2022. Following the high-profile trial, Heard sought refuge in Spain, initially renting a property under the pseudonym Martha Jane Cannary, the name of the famed Wild West figure Calamity Jane.
Sources close to Heard have indicated that the move was a deliberate effort to distance herself from the fallout of the legal proceedings and to "start fresh." She has reportedly become integrated into the Spanish capital's elite, purchasing a home in Madrid's Chamartin district. Neighbors have described her as keeping a low profile, often seen walking her daughter to school and embracing local culture, including learning the Spanish language.
Her children attend a private school in Madrid, and she has been observed visiting an American supermarket, possibly to find familiar products. Despite her desire for privacy, Heard has occasionally returned to the public sphere. In August of the previous year, she made her stage debut in a production at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. She also marked Halloween in Madrid with her children and shared family Thanksgiving photos online.
In a rare public statement about the impact of the 2022 trial, made in the documentary "Silenced," Heard expressed that the ordeal had severely impacted her ability to speak and share her story, stating, "I have lost my ability to speak. I am not here to tell my story... In fact, I don't want to use my voice anymore."
Heard and Depp, her ex-husband and co-star from "Pirates of the Caribbean," met in 2009 and married in 2015 before divorcing a year later. Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard in 2019 related to a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she described experiencing domestic abuse, though she did not name Depp directly. The trial concluded in June 2022 with a jury awarding Depp $10.3 million in damages and Heard $2 million on her counterclaim. The case was settled in December 2022, with Heard stating at the time that she had "made no admission" and that the settlement allowed her to "emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago."
