Amandaland Christmas Special Teases 'Chaotic' Festive Bash with Lucy Punch as 'Sexy Santa'

The BBC has announced an upcoming Christmas special for the popular Motherland spin-off, Amandaland, set to air in December. The hour-long episode will see Lucy Punch reprise her role as Amanda, a social-climbing single mother living in South Harlesden following her divorce.

In a first look at the special, Punch, 48, is pictured dressed as a 'middle-aged sexy Santa,' complete with a festive-inspired dress, cape, and hat. She stands beside a decorative reindeer, holding a clapperboard. "There’s mistletoe, cheese straws and a middle-aged wannabe sexy Santa. We are all delighted to be back again for an Amandaland Xmas Spesh," Punch stated.

The festive installment will center on Amanda's attempt to host a lavish, last-minute party on Christmas Eve to impress an old school friend, Millie, played by Daisy Haggard. This endeavor is expected to devolve into chaos, serving as Amanda's perceived ticket back into her former social circle.

Returning cast members include Phillipa Dunne, 45, as Amanda's put-upon best friend Anne, and Joanna Lumley, 80, as Amanda's snobby mother. The special promises to deliver "all the humour and heart you could wish for," according to Seb Barwell, BBC Commissioning Editor.

The previous year's Christmas special for Amandaland achieved significant viewership, becoming the most-watched comedy episode of the year on British television with 7.4 million viewers over 28 days. The second series also garnered strong ratings, averaging 4.5 million viewers and earning Bafta nominations for Punch and Dunne.

Further solidifying the show's success, a third series of Amandaland has already been commissioned, with filming scheduled to begin early next year. The renewal follows rave reviews for the second installment.
