Alexander Skarsgard's Fashion Choice Draws Attention at "Wicker" Premiere

Alexander Skarsgard, 50, drew both attention and some fashion criticism at the London premiere of his new film "Wicker." The actor arrived wearing a striking gold Saint Laurent suit paired with transparent plastic shoes from the designer's Spring/Summer 2027 collection, which was recently showcased at Paris Fashion Week. The ensemble drew comparisons to the Tin Man from "The Wizard of Oz."
Skarsgard was joined on the red carpet at the BFI Southbank by his co-stars Olivia Colman, 52, Elizabeth Debicki, 36, and Peter Dinklage, 57. Colman, who portrays a lonely Fisherwoman in the film, opted for an elegant satin gown from Celine and debuted a new grey hairstyle. Her husband of 25 years, Ed Sinclair, also attended the event.
"Wicker," described as "vulgar, horny yet unexpectedly heartwarming," is based on Ursula Wills' short story "The Wicker Husband." The film's premise centers on Colman's character, whose love life is hindered by a persistent fishy odor. She commissions a basket weaver, played by Dinklage, to craft her a husband out of wicker. The creation, brought to life and portrayed by Skarsgard, becomes the object of intense desire and jealousy among the village women, threatening the social order.
The film's trailer has already garnered attention for its explicit scenes depicting the unconventional romance between Colman's character and the wicker man. Fans have noted the film's unusual themes, with some drawing parallels to "Wicked" and "The Shape of Water."
Colman has expressed her enthusiasm for the project, calling it "in my top three favorite scripts I’ve ever read." Debicki, who plays the Tailor's wife, described her character as initially unhappy, finding a new perspective after witnessing the Fisherwoman's unconventional life choice. Dinklage noted his character's outsider status and his character's affection for the Fisherwoman.
"Wicker" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and has received a 91 percent 'fresh' rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is scheduled for release in the US on October 23 and in the UK on October 30.
