Aimee Lou Wood attended a BBC screening of the upcoming series Film Club on Monday at the Charlotte Street Hotel in London, where she posed for photographs and discussed the BBC's new romantic comedy‑drama.
Wood, 31, arrived in a black plunging midi dress with sheer tights and pointed heels and was pictured alongside co-star Owen Cooper. Cooper, 15, who rose to attention following his role in the Netflix drama Adolescence, appears in Film Club opposite Wood and Ralph Davis, who plays Noa.
BBC promotional material describes Film Club as the weekly escape for Evie (played by Wood), who transforms her mother’s garage into a cinematic world and spends uninterrupted hours there with her best friend Noa. The blurb sets the action on a Friday night and frames the story around the prospect of Noa leaving for a dream job across the country, forcing both characters to confront whether their relationship might be more than friendship.
The series is billed as a blend of wit and emotion that examines love and family as Evie navigates life amid the eccentricity of her household, which includes her single mother Suz, sister Izzie and her sometimes boyfriend Josh. BBC said Film Club will air later this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.
At the screening Wood posed with several colleagues and fellow actors attending the event. Among those present were Suranne Jones, Liv Hill and Fola Evans‑Akingbola. Photographs from the hotel show a mix of smart and casual looks among attendees, with Cooper photographed in an all‑black tracksuit.
Cooper’s profile rose rapidly after Adolescence, a series about schoolboy Jamie Miller, played by Cooper, who is accused of murdering a girl. The project was created by actor Stephen Graham, who also appears in the drama as the boy’s father. In interviews following his breakout role, Cooper has said he was inspired to act after seeing Tom Holland in The Impossible and has expressed ambitions for future roles.
Wood’s appearance comes as she continues to expand her screen work. She is also attached to the film Anxious People, a Christmas‑set project directed by Mark Forster and adapted from Fredrik Backman’s novel. In that film Wood is reported to play Grace, described as a reluctant bank robber, in a story that unfolds the day before Christmas Eve when an investment banker, played by Angelina Jolie, finds herself among strangers at an open house. Forster previously adapted Backman’s A Man Called Ove into the 2022 film A Man Called Otto and has worked with screenwriter David Magee on prior projects.
BBC confirmed the Film Club release window but has not announced exact premiere dates. The screening in London offered the network and cast a chance to present the series to press and industry guests ahead of its broadcast on BBC platforms later this year.
