Another heatwave is anticipated for the United Kingdom next week, following a brief respite with cooler temperatures expected over the weekend. High pressure building south of the UK is set to push temperatures back into the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius for southern and eastern parts of the country.
Sunday is forecast to be a cooler day across the UK, with cloud cover and some rain expected in southern and eastern regions. This cooler weather will bring temperatures down by a few degrees, marking the end of the third heatwave of the year for some locations, including Usk in Monmouthshire and Exeter in Devon. Both areas are expected to fall below the heatwave threshold for the first time in 21 consecutive days.
Temperatures on Sunday are predicted to be in the mid-20s Celsius for the southeast and the mid-teens Celsius further north. However, this relief is expected to be short-lived as high pressure builds near the UK's southern flank. This meteorological setup will stall rain-bearing weather fronts, confining most wet weather to northern and western areas, particularly northwest Scotland.
In contrast, southern parts of the UK are likely to see a significant temperature increase. Tapping into heat from the European continent, England and Wales could experience peak temperatures around 25-32C for much of the upcoming week.
