While much of the United Kingdom experiences a heatwave, staff at Magnavale, a major frozen food supplier, find refuge inside the company's cold storage facilities, which maintain a constant temperature of -18 degrees Celsius (0 degrees Fahrenheit).

John Edgoose, 60, described the facility near Grantham as a "giant version" of a kitchen freezer. Magnavale operates one of the UK's largest cold storage networks, capable of holding 145,000 pallets. The operation is extensive, with approximately 200 lorries arriving daily to collect products.

"The UK survives on frozen food, it's a big industry," Edgoose stated, highlighting the critical role of frozen food logistics in the country. For employees working within the cold store, the frigid temperatures offer a stark contrast to the external heat, making it a surprisingly comfortable place to be during warmer weather.
