Prince William has expressed concern about a "terrifying prospect" of future wildfires in the United Kingdom, attributing the increased risk to climate change and stressing the importance of preparation.

During a visit to Treherbert in Rhondda Cynon Taf, an area previously threatened by a significant mountain fire in August, the Prince of Wales lauded the "gargantuan" efforts made to protect homes, land, and lives.

"We need to start taking wildfires as seriously as the continent has done," Prince William stated, highlighting potential gaps in resources such as firefighting aircraft. He suggested the community's response, with locals supporting those battling the flames, served as a model for others.

The scorched landscape near the community center where Prince William met with emergency personnel and volunteers served as a stark visual reminder of the recent fire. Kath Edwards, managing director of the charity Valleys Kids, described the scene as "like lava" and expressed fears for the community center and residents' homes.

Prince William noted that 2026 marked the first summer he felt "worried about the scale of the wildfires."
