New Forest Wildlife Park has welcomed a new pack of four wolves, two years after the previous group succumbed to age-related health issues. The wolves, which spent time in Belgium before arriving in Hampshire, are a significant addition for the park, which aims to provide a suitable environment for these social animals.

The introduction of the new wolves involved months of planning and collaboration with the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria's coordinator for the species. Jason Palmer, curator of collections at the park, highlighted the complexity of managing wolves in captivity, noting they are a "highly complex social species and one of the most challenging species to keep well in captivity."

The park's previous grey wolf pack, established in 2010, experienced losses including Cedar, Idaho, and Rocky due to health problems, leaving only Chaser and Aspen. The team expressed concern for Aspen's well-being when Chaser's health declined, underscoring the importance of companionship for wolves, who thrive within a pack structure.

The new wolves have arrived from France and Belgium, and the park anticipates visitors will be eager to see them. IMAGE1: A pack of four wolves in a forest. "We can't wait for our visitors to meet them," Palmer stated.
