Firefighters continue to battle a significant heathland fire at Headon Warren on the Isle of Wight, with approximately 60 personnel on site. The blaze has affected a 25-hectare area of woodland and heathland.

A firefighting helicopter has been brought in to assist in the response efforts. The National Trust, which manages the site, stated that the risk of wildfire remains "exceptionally high" due to the current warm and dry weather conditions.

"We recognise that this incident will be worrying for many people across the Isle of Wight," a spokesperson for the National Trust said. "Headon Warren is a much-loved and nationally important landscape."

It is currently too early to fully assess the impact of the fire on the site, its wildlife, and habitats. National Trust teams will begin assessing the area for damage once it is deemed safe to do so.

The fire service has advised the public to avoid the area and anticipates remaining on the scene for the next 24 to 72 hours.
