The Environment Agency (EA) is conducting an investigation into land off Mill Lane, near Wadborough, Worcestershire, amid allegations of illegal medical waste dumping. The site in question is situated close to Great Blaythorn Meadow, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
A resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, informed the BBC that a muck spreader, typically used for agricultural purposes, had been employed to distribute what they believe to be medical waste. The EA confirmed it is collaborating with West Mercia Police, Wychavon District Council, and Worcestershire County Council on the investigation.
"Waste crime scars communities and the environment and, in line with our 10-point plan, we're acting quickly to tackle illegal activity," stated an EA spokesperson. Natural England designates Great Blaythorn Meadow as an SSSI due to its biological significance, particularly its rare lowland meadow and grassland habitat, making the proximity of the alleged dumping site a point of concern for local residents.
