Dolphins were recently observed engaging in playful activity off the coast of Sunderland, near Tyne and Wear.
A group of approximately eight dolphins, comprising both adults and calves, were spotted in the waters near Roker.
Anthony Skordis, a local resident, recounted his experience: "I heard some dolphins had been at Roker in the morning so thought I would chance a walk up the pier later. I was lucky that a group of about eight dolphins were still there. They were in a really playful mood." Skordis observed the dolphins during a walk with his dog, Dexter.
Bottlenose dolphins are frequently sighted in this area, with sightings being most common during the summer months. Pods can range from ten to 40 individuals. Other common locations for dolphin sightings include Tynemouth's Longsands beach, King Edward's bay, the Tyne Estuary, and Roker Pier.
