A couple in Newport, Wales, has transformed their mid-terrace garden into a dense tropical jungle, replacing a sun-drenched deck with lush foliage and exotic trees. Dave Robinson and Gemma Furby source their plants from niche nurseries and garden centers, including several in Wales and England.

While the garden now resembles a tropical landscape, it is also home to a variety of poisonous plants. "He knows quite a lot of the plants and when he had a friend round a little while ago, he did a danger tour of all the poisonous or spiky plants," Gemma said, referring to Dave's knowledge of the garden's hazards.

Despite the presence of potentially dangerous flora, the Royal Horticultural Society notes that serious poisoning from plants is uncommon in the UK. The risk of severe poisoning, skin reactions, or allergies from common garden plants is generally low.

The garden's transformation involved replacing decking with a shaded environment filled with tropical trees and ferns. The couple sources plants that originate from Africa, Asia, and South America. IMAGE11 IMAGE9
