Alderney is preparing to host judges for the prestigious Britain in Bloom awards, representing the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Members of the Alderney Horticultural Society have been actively involved in planting and maintaining the island's public spaces in anticipation of the visit.

The judging itinerary will highlight various areas, including the Memorial Garden, hanging baskets along Victoria Street, floral displays at the island's railway station, and planting schemes at the harbour and airport. These efforts are part of Alderney's broader commitment to horticultural excellence and community beautification.

During their three-hour tour, the judges will also experience the recently restored Hut at Saye. This site has been transformed by the Alderney Wildlife Trust and the Youth Commission into a hub for young people to engage with wildlife and conservation initiatives.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) will be evaluating communities based on their commitment to conservation, sustainability, and volunteer engagement. Alderney's presentation will include visits to significant natural and historical sites, such as the Roman Fort at Longis and the Ramsar site on the west coast, known for its gannet colony. The judges will also tour a selection of private gardens across the island.
