Yorkshire Building Society Launches New Easy-Access Savings Account

Yorkshire Building Society has introduced a new savings account, the Yorkshire Easy Access Saver, offering a 3.65% interest rate and the flexibility of monthly interest payments. This launch aims to provide consumers with a straightforward option for earning interest on their savings, differentiating itself from many newer easy-access accounts that come with complex terms and withdrawal limitations.

The account allows savers to receive their interest either annually or as a lump sum at the end of each month. For instance, a £10,000 deposit could yield £365 in annual interest or approximately £30.41 paid monthly. This feature is particularly notable as many providers often reduce the interest rate if payouts are taken monthly or do not offer monthly payouts at all.

While the 3.65% rate is competitive, it is not the highest available for all savings products. Accounts that impose restrictions on withdrawals or are only available for a limited term may offer higher rates. For example, Coventry Building Society's 3 Access Saver account offers 4.22% for those willing to limit withdrawals to three per year, though this rate is only guaranteed for 12 months. On the high street, Kent Reliance offers 3.69%, and Newbury Building Society provides 3% on its Senior Saver account for individuals aged 55 and over.

For savers willing to lock away their funds for a fixed period, longer-term bonds can offer superior monthly interest rates. Options include one-year online bonds from GB Bank at 4.63% and NS&I at 4.6%. However, the Yorkshire Easy Access Saver stands out for its accessibility, allowing customers to withdraw funds without penalty or a reduced rate, a characteristic increasingly uncommon in the current savings market.

Being able to take money out whenever you like is increasingly rare among easy-access account launches

The NS&I Income Bonds, which also offer monthly payouts without withdrawal restrictions, currently provide a rate of 3.4%, making the Yorkshire Building Society's offering more attractive in terms of interest earned.
