Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Hathaway Chairman

Warren Buffett has stepped down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, concluding a tenure of more than 50 years in the role. The company announced Friday that Buffett, 96, will assume the title of chairman emeritus, effective immediately.

His son, Howard Buffett, will take over as the new chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Howard Buffett has been a member of the company's board of directors since 1993. Warren Buffett will continue to serve as a director.

Buffett had held the position of chairman since 1970. He previously stepped down as CEO of the company late last year, with Greg Abel succeeding him in that role.
