A Vons grocery store in Anaheim Hills, California, will close permanently on January 2, 2027, Albertsons, the parent company, confirmed to the California Post.

The store, located in the Anaheim Hills Festival shopping center at 8010 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road, has been a supermarket for over three decades. It originally opened as a Pavilions in 1993 and was converted to a Vons in 2020. Both Vons and Pavilions are owned by Albertsons.

"Closing a store is always a tough decision and one we do not take lightly," a Vons spokesperson told the California Post. "Like other retailers, we continuously evaluate store performance and market dynamics, and with our focus on growth, occasionally it’s necessary to close locations that aren’t growing or meeting financial expectations."

The Anaheim Hills Vons location includes a bakery, deli, and pharmacy. The pharmacy is scheduled to close to the public on December 18. The store will be replaced by a Dick's Sporting Goods, according to local reports and an employee confirmation to the California Post.

Vons is working to transfer the store's 76 employees to other locations. Meanwhile, a Vons store nearby on Route 91 is slated for a grand reopening on January 8, 2027, following a remodel.

This closure comes amid other recent announcements of grocery store shutdowns in California. Asian supermarket chain 99 Market is closing two Bay Area locations, and Safeway is also shuttering a location in the Bay Area, following previous closures in the region.
