Volkswagen Unveils All-Electric Tiguan SUV Set for 2027 Launch
The best-selling SUV receives a complete redesign with an upmarket feel and an estimated range of over 370 miles.
Volkswagen is electrifying its best-selling SUV, the Tiguan, with an all-new model slated for a 2027 launch. The redesigned electric SUV, officially unveiled this week, promises a more premium experience and an estimated range exceeding 370 miles on a single charge.
Volkswagen has described the ID. Tiguan as one of its most important electric models for the coming years. The vehicle's design has been completely re-engineered for electric power, positioning it to succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 models, which have been available since 2021. However, the company plans to continue offering combustion engine versions of the Tiguan alongside the electric variant.
Design and Interior
The exterior design follows Volkswagen's new 'Pure Positive' language, moving away from its predecessors' crossover appearance to a more assertive SUV stance with clean lines and sculpted surfaces. This new aesthetic aims to give the impression of a vehicle from a higher premium segment. Notable design changes include the return to traditional pull-style door handles, addressing safety concerns associated with flush handles common on newer electric vehicles. The front and rear feature full-width LED light strips, each incorporating an illuminated VW badge.
Inside, the ID. Tiguan incorporates physical buttons and enhanced technology, responding to customer feedback. The cockpit features a 12-inch co-driver display, a 10-inch driver display, and a central 15-inch infotainment screen.
The driver's display includes retro-style blue-and-red instrument dials reminiscent of the Golf IV, selectable via the steering wheel menu. Volkswagen aims for an interior atmosphere that evokes a higher vehicle segment through high-quality design and intuitive controls. Optional features contributing to a premium feel include electrically adjustable front seats with massage, memory, and ventilation functions, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a panoramic sunroof.
Performance and Variants
The ID. Tiguan offers 534 liters of boot space, with an additional frunk for storing charging cables. Powertrain options include a rear-wheel drive version with 180 horsepower and a 58kWh battery, a more powerful rear-wheel drive variant producing 282 horsepower with a 77kWh battery, and a 295 horsepower 4Motion all-wheel drive model also equipped with the 77kWh battery.
Pre-sales are set to begin on October 13 in Germany and other European markets. Pricing in Germany is expected to start from €42,695, which is approximately £36,200. The UK market will see the ID. Tiguan offered in three trim levels: Trend, Style, and R-Line.
