Viral Italian Aperitif Sarti Rosa Launches in US, Aiming to Rival Aperol

Sarti Rosa, an Italian aperitif known for its vibrant pink hue and blend of blood orange, mango, and passion fruit flavors, has officially launched in the United States. Previously only available in Europe, the spirit has gained significant traction on social media, prompting its expansion into U.S. liquor stores. The drink is being positioned as a potential rival to established summer favorites like the Aperol Spritz and Hugo Spritz.

The liqueur is produced by Casa Luigi Sarti & Figli, a distillery founded in Bologna, Italy, in 1885. Its arrival in the U.S. has been anticipated by consumers, with many posting on platforms like Instagram and TikTok about their search for the product. The official Sarti Spritz Instagram account has responded to user requests, signaling the brand's awareness of U.S. demand.

Bottles of Sarti Rosa are now available in select U.S. markets, retailing for approximately $29.99 in New York City. Despite its growing social media buzz, some industry professionals note that widespread adoption in bars may take time. Derek Brown, co-founder of the hospitality group Drink Company in Washington D.C., commented that while Sarti Rosa is gaining attention online, it has not yet become a common offering in many establishments.

"Social media can be its own bubble, and we forget that consumers must know about Sarti, bartenders must learn to make it and bars must start stocking it," Brown told Fox News Digital. He added that it will likely take time for the spirit to gain momentum, as it has only recently become available in the United States this summer.

Brown suggested that Sarti Rosa's visual appeal, including its distinctive pink color, and its fruity, floral profile contribute to its popularity. "Some research suggests pink drinks taste sweeter and can evoke pleasure," he noted. The limited initial availability can also contribute to a sense of exclusivity, encouraging consumers to share their discoveries online. The aperitif has a fairly low alcohol by volume (ABV) of 14%.

Some restaurants are already incorporating Sarti Rosa into their menus. Marisela Camacho, beverage director at The Farm Italy in New York, reported that their custom "Saint Sarti Spritz," featuring St-Germain, Sarti Rosa, lemon sorbet, mint, and prosecco, has been a popular item. Camacho also noted significant customer interest in the drink even before they arrive at the restaurant, with requests for Sarti Spritzes for parties.

Experts anticipate that Sarti Rosa could become a significant player in the summer beverage market, potentially challenging established brands. The drink's ease of preparation, attractive appearance, and unique flavor profile are seen as key advantages. "I'm sure it'll gain its place among the spritzes and be one of the many delicious options we have for summer drinking," Brown said. Camacho predicted that interest in Sarti Rosa might extend beyond the summer months, with potential for seasonal variations.
