Vinted Updates Terms and Conditions for UK Users, Affecting Fees and Counterfeit Policies
The online marketplace is introducing changes to its 'Buyer Protection fee', counterfeit item handling, and account deletion processes for its 17 million UK users, effective October 8, 2026.
Online marketplace Vinted, which has become the third largest fashion retailer in the UK with 17 million users, is set to implement significant changes to its Terms and Conditions for its UK user base starting October 8, 2026. The updates affect how fees are presented, how counterfeit items are handled, and processes for account management.
Fee Renaming and Structure
The fee previously known as the 'Buyer Protection fee' will be rebranded as a 'Vinted fee'. This charge, which constitutes three to eight percent of the item or bundle price, will continue to cover platform operational costs, including refunds and transaction management. Buyers will still have a two-day window post-delivery to report issues with their purchases.
Counterfeit Item Policy
Vinted's updated terms introduce a stricter policy for counterfeit items. If an item is verified as counterfeit, Vinted reserves the right to dispose of it after a six-week 'Retention Window' if the seller fails to provide satisfactory proof of authenticity or lodge a formal objection. Sellers will be notified of such claims and must respond within 48 hours with evidence of authenticity, a change from the previous 24-hour response window. Should a seller be unable to provide sufficient proof, the transaction will be canceled, and the buyer will receive a refund without the need to return the item.
Account and Wallet Management
The new terms also clarify procedures for account deletion and balance verification. Users are advised to withdraw funds from their Vinted Wallet before deleting their account, as account deletion may initiate a request to close the Vinted Wallet, subject to the provider's timelines. Furthermore, Vinted will require that the bank account details attached to a user's Vinted account match their balance details. Failure to verify these details may prevent payouts and continued use of the Vinted Wallet.
Moderation and Corrective Actions
Concerns regarding user content, items, or activity on the platform will now fall under a more generalized framework for moderation. While previous terms listed specific violations that could lead to account blocking, the updated conditions broadly state that Vinted may take 'proportional' corrective actions if content, items, or user activity is deemed unlawful, a threat to public security, or a violation of the terms and catalogue rules.
