Victoria Beckham Finds Confidence in Thriving Fashion and Beauty Brands After 'Rocky' Business Journey

Victoria Beckham has spoken about the immense confidence derived from her now "profitable and thriving" fashion and beauty businesses, reflecting on the challenging and "rocky" path to entrepreneurial success.

After her time with the Spice Girls, Beckham launched her eponymous fashion line in 2008. The venture was not an immediate success, marked by substantial revenue losses and repeated financial bailouts from her husband, David Beckham. These early struggles reportedly left her embarrassed and emotional.

However, her business achieved profitability last year, reporting a turnover of £7.3 million. This turnaround was significantly boosted by her beauty range, which includes a popular foundation priced at £104. "To be able to sit here now and say that both the fashion and beauty arms of my business, independent of each other, are profitable and thriving... that gives me huge confidence as well," Beckham told Grazia magazine.

She emphasized that this success was the result of hard work, stating, "It's something I've worked hard for, I wasn't just handed that." The former Spice Girl noted that her confidence is also bolstered by feeling "strong" when wearing a "red lip." Her company, Victoria Beckham Holdings, which encompasses both fashion and beauty, reported an operating profit of £7.3 million for the year ending December 2025. This profit was largely driven by her foundation makeup, which sold out within days of its launch in 2025, leading to a waitlist of 25,000 customers. Her Satin Kajal eyeliners also remained popular.

Accounts for the period ending December 2025 revealed a 15% increase in revenue, reaching £129.8 million, up from £112.7 million in 2024. This marks the fifth consecutive year of double-digit revenue growth for the company.

A source close to the business commented, "Victoria has worked so hard for the success of her company, she has put blood, sweat and tears into it. She almost lost it some years back so she is just so happy that it has posted a profit like this."

In contrast, the previous year saw the company operate at a revenue loss of £1.6 million. In a documentary released last October, Beckham recounted the embarrassment of past financial losses. After launching her fashion line in 2008, she was repeatedly supported financially by David Beckham, which at times made her a subject of public criticism.

"This business is everything to me, it's absolutely who I am but it has been a hell of a journey. I almost lost everything and that was a dark, dark time," she stated. She described feeling like a "fire fighter" dealing with tens of millions in the red, and the strain of discussing the business's financial woes with her husband and business partner.

David Beckham recalled the difficulty of her needing to ask for additional funds, especially given her prior financial success. "When we met, she was a lot richer than me... for her to have to come to me and say 'can I have some, we need some more money, the business needs more money', that was hard for both of us," he said.

Beckham launched her fashion collection with 10 dresses in 2008. The brand expanded to include handbags, coats, shoes, and accessories. Profitability remained elusive for 14 years. By 2011, sales reached over £15 million, but profit was not achieved. In 2015, annual revenue doubled to £34 million, but losses also increased as the company pursued aggressive expansion. Despite securing £30 million in investment from Neo Investment Partners in 2017, Victoria Beckham Limited reported a loss of £12.3 million the following year, which grew to £16.6 million in 2019. Around that time, David Beckham reportedly injected £23 million into the brand, including a £4 million loan and £6.6 million in cash in 2016.

A significant development during this period was the launch of Victoria Beckham Beauty in 2019, which has become a major revenue contributor. However, in 2021, auditors expressed "significant doubt" about the fashion business's ability to continue operating, with debts reported at £46 million. The label had borrowed more than £30 million from other parts of the Beckham business empire. Without further shareholder support, auditors warned it could cease operations. The brand has borrowed over £30 million from the wider Beckham business empire over the past 15 years.

In her Netflix series, business leader David Belhassen, an investor in the brand, recounted instances of high spending, such as £85,000 on office plants. Weeks before her debut at Paris Fashion Week in 2022, the fashion venture had debts of £53.9 million. The collection presented at Paris Fashion Week, featuring a now-iconic parrot green midi dress, was met with critical acclaim and has become one of the brand's bestsellers.

Beckham opened her first fashion store in the U.S. at Bal Harbour Shops in May, followed by a New York store in early September, which combines fashion, beauty, and fragrance. The brand also launched a successful partnership with Gap in April.

In May, Beckham indicated openness to selling her fashion business after her 18-year pursuit of recognition as a designer. She stated, "I would never say never and I like to look at opportunities." Currently, her focus is on growth, with plans to expand into homeware products, including silverware, glasses, and furniture.

"I'm very proud of everything I have accomplished in the fashion industry after it took years for me to be taken seriously by other designers," Beckham said. "I feel accomplished, it's been a roller coaster over the last 25 years... but to be able to say that fashion and beauty is profitable that is something I am very very proud of."
