Universal Studios Hollywood Roller Coaster Sparks Noise Complaints From Nearby Residents
Residents of Toluca Lake report that screams from riders on the new 'Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift' attraction are audible day and night.
Universal Studios Hollywood is facing criticism from residents of the nearby Toluca Lake community over noise emanating from its new "Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift" roller coaster. The attraction, which is currently undergoing technical rehearsals ahead of its official opening, has drawn complaints that sounds from test riders are disruptive.
Neighbors have reported hearing screams from the coaster, which is capable of reaching speeds up to 72 mph, echoing through their neighborhood both during the day and into the night. One resident described the noise as "extremely disruptive," stating that it "not only echoes, it blasts all over the golf course and into the neighborhood."
"I mean, when you're sitting outside, you just hear the screaming all throughout the day and then even into the night, so it's pretty non-stop," one resident told Fox 11 Los Angeles.
A spokesperson for Universal Studios Hollywood stated that the venue is actively reviewing sound levels as technical rehearsals continue. The company expressed appreciation for community feedback, noting it is an important part of the process.
The "Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift" is Universal Studios Hollywood's first high-speed outdoor roller coaster and features 360-degree rotating ride vehicles inspired by the film franchise. It is scheduled to officially open to the public this summer.
Online discussions have also emerged regarding the noise complaints. Some social media users have commented that living next to a long-established theme park implies an acceptance of ambient noise, drawing parallels to residents living near airports. Others have expressed understanding for the residents' frustration, acknowledging that continuous screaming could become annoying.
