UK Powerball Jackpot Surges to Record £503 Million
The upcoming draw offers the largest lottery prize ever available to UK players, potentially creating generational wealth.
The jackpot for the National Lottery's Powerball game has reached an estimated £503 million ahead of Thursday morning's draw, marking the largest lottery prize ever offered to UK players. This sum places a potential winner in the same financial league as figures like David Beckham, whose fortune is reportedly around £520 million.
The extraordinary amount could fund a lavish lifestyle, including global properties, a country estate, or even a residence in Dubai's Burj Khalifa, with significant funds remaining for holidays, gifts, and philanthropic endeavors.
This record-breaking jackpot comes just three weeks after Powerball's launch in Britain. Thursday's draw will be the 43rd consecutive rollover, nearing the game's record of 47 rollovers, which occurred during a run that concluded with a $1.817 billion jackpot win on Christmas Eve last year. The largest Powerball prize globally was $2.04 billion, won by a player in California in November 2022.
Should a British player win on Thursday, it would surpass the current UK National Lottery record of £195 million, won anonymously on EuroMillions in 2022. Andy Carter, Senior Winner's Advisor at Allwyn, the National Lottery operator, stated, "Half a billion pounds. Just let that sink in. We are only three weeks into the UK's Powerball journey and already seeing jaw dropping jackpots of dizzying heights – this is the UK's biggest jackpot ever and will change lives."
Since Powerball began in Britain on July 23, over 742,000 prizes have been awarded, ranging from £8 to £70,195.50. The largest prizes so far, amounting to £70,195.50, have been won by matching four main numbers and the Powerball.
Powerball is played for £4 per line, requiring players to select five main numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. A win is achieved by matching all five main numbers and the Powerball. The UK version includes an additional prize tier offering £8 for matching just two main numbers.
Unlike the traditional National Lottery, a UK Powerball jackpot winner receives their prize over 30 years. Draws are held around 4 a.m. UK time on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from a studio in Florida. The jackpot is shared among winners in both the US and the UK, with the advertised UK figure representing the estimated amount payable to most UK winners over 30 years, after UK taxes.
Prospective players have until 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, to purchase tickets for Thursday's draw.
