UK Holiday Companies Offer Fuel Reimbursement Amid Rising Costs

Rising fuel prices, exacerbated by ongoing conflict in the Middle East, are impacting the cost of domestic travel in the United Kingdom. In response, some holiday companies and hotels are offering financial assistance to customers planning staycations.

The average price of unleaded petrol has reached approximately 158.52 pence per litre, with experts forecasting further increases. This trend is prompting a significant portion of the British public to consider domestic holidays as a more economical option compared to international travel. Research indicates that 28% of Britons are more inclined towards UK holidays to save money, and 26% plan to reduce their overall holiday budgets this year.

Fuel Support Schemes

Hoseasons, a company operating over 750 holiday parks, has launched a 'Fuel Cover' initiative. Eligible customers can claim up to £75 towards petrol costs for selected UK breaks booked between May 20 and August 30, for holidays taken before September 30. This offer is limited to the first 100 qualifying bookings and requires customers to book over the phone using the code 'FUEL75'. Simon Altham, chief operating officer for Hoseasons, stated that the company aims to alleviate pressure on holidaymakers concerned about rising travel expenses, particularly fuel costs for families traveling during peak periods.

Earlier in the year, the St Moritz Hotel & Cowshed Spa in Cornwall introduced a similar program. Its 'pumped up petrol prices be damned' discount aims to offset guests' travel expenses by reimbursing fuel costs. The hotel has categorized discounts based on the origin of the guests' travel. Visitors from Wales and the South West can receive a £15 discount using the 'Tank-Top-Up' code. Those traveling from the South East, London, and the Midlands can get a £20 discount with the 'Say-No-To-Surcharges' code. Guests from the North and Scotland can receive a £30 discount per carload with the 'Fuel-My-Holiday' code. These offers were available for bookings made by April 30 for stays taken before July 1. Hugh Ridgway, the hotel's owner, explained that the initiative was designed to help cover the additional fuel expenses incurred by guests driving long distances to reach the Cornish hotel.

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts is also providing a £25 fuel cost contribution for guests booking selected stays of one night or more. This offer is accompanied by a £25 credit for food and beverages. However, the incentive does not apply to stays at New Blossoms Hotel, Forest Hills Resort, Lochanhully Resort, Plas Talgarth Resort, Spey Valley Resort, and Aviemore Lodges.
