UK Beach Hut Sells for £40,000 Despite Limited Space and No Overnight Stays
A compact beach hut on Bexhill Beach is listed for a price exceeding that of many family cars, sparking local surprise.
A beach hut measuring just six by seven feet is on the market for £40,000 in Bexhill Beach, East Sussex, a price one local described as "mad." The property, located on the shingle along De La Warr Parade and East Parade, offers uninterrupted views of the English Channel.
The hut is situated close to public amenities including toilets, parking, and a children's play area, with cafés and shops also within walking distance. The sale includes seaside items such as deckchairs and a parasol.
However, the hut's use is restricted by local regulations, permitting only daytime access. Overnight stays and permanent residency are prohibited. Owners are also required to pay an annual site license fee to the local council, estimated to be between £650 and £730.
The asking price has drawn attention given the structure's small size, comparable to a garden shed.
This is not the first beach hut to be listed at a high price. Earlier this year, a beach hut in Abersoch was listed for £200,000, and another in North Wales was marketed for £50,000 after being in the same family for over 60 years.
