Target Recalls Toddler Sandals Over Choking Hazard

Target has issued a recall for 211,000 pairs of its Cat & Jack Toddler Girls' Sequerah Sandals, citing concerns that detached decorative pearls could pose a choking hazard to children. The recall, announced Thursday, affects sandal sizes ranging from 5T to 12T.

The sandals were sold nationwide at Target stores and online at target.com between January 2026 and May 2026. The retail price was $22 per pair.

Target has reported 23 instances where the pearls have fallen off, although no injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. The company is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled sandals, remove them from children's reach, and contact Target for a full refund. Refunds can be obtained by returning the sandals to any Target store or by using a prepaid mail-in label.

This is the latest in a series of recalls Target has undertaken this summer.

Earlier in July, a recall originally issued in June for Up & Up brand baby wipes was elevated to the FDA's highest risk category. Target had voluntarily recalled its Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes in June after customers reported product discoloration and potential infections. Subsequent FDA testing identified the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria in the wipes, which can cause serious and life-threatening infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as newborns, infants, and young children.

The latest recalled products were sold at Target stores nationwide and online at target.com from January 2026 to May 2026

The baby wipe recall initially involved 6.4 million units of various counts of Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and 440,600 units of Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes. The FDA classified the recall as Class I, signifying a reasonable probability that the product's use could cause serious adverse health consequences or death. Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli are bacteria commonly found in soil and water, and infections can be difficult to treat, especially in individuals with compromised immune systems. The FDA advised customers to stop using the wipes and return them for a refund, noting that Target and the manufacturer, Sapro Temizlik Urunleri, had received consumer complaints and adverse event reports alleging product discoloration, skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections.
