Sydney Homeowner Relists Luxury Townhouse With Massive Price Cut Amid Strata Chaos

A Sydney homeowner, who previously gained attention for a candid description of his property's issues, has relisted his luxury townhouse in Glebe with a significant price reduction and a renewed warning about the accompanying "strata chaos."

The three-bedroom waterfront property is now on the market for $999,999, a stark contrast to the $3.8 million it was listed for in February 2025. The owner, who is selling without an agent, described the sale as an opportunity to "buy the dream... inherit the nightmare."

In a tongue-in-cheek update to the listing, the owner, identified as Christopher, stated that the sale includes "one beautiful terrace," "one advanced diploma in strata law," and "enough legal correspondence to keep a small forest employed." He humorously noted that the near $4 million purchase was intended as a "forever home," but instead became an "unlimited subscription to 'Strata - The Never Ending Story.'"

Christopher warned that any seemingly simple repair would likely involve multiple meetings, consultants, engineers, and lawyers before any action could be taken. "Everybody agrees something needs fixing. Nobody agrees how," he wrote. "Twelve months later… everyone meets again to discuss why nothing happened."

He added that he is willing to accept "just about anything" price-wise to sell the property, suggesting it would appeal to someone who "enjoys reading agendas longer than most novels" or "just loves a challenge." The listing also noted that the biggest surprises in strata disputes are often hidden in paperwork rather than behind walls.

Christopher reportedly purchased the terrace for $2.9 million in February 2024. However, he stated that the living environment within the townhouse complex became so difficult that he decided to list the property just one year later. He described the situation as a "real-life soap opera" with feuding neighbors, escalating arguments at meetings, and a general atmosphere of animosity.

One instance of the protracted disputes involved the owners' corporation attempting to impose a $1 million bill for terrace works, leading half a dozen owners to take the corporation to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Christopher claimed this led to an "icy living environment" and "death stares" from neighbors.

Despite the blunt listing, Christopher reported receiving significant interest, including calls from nine potential buyers after the initial listing. The realestate.com.au listing remains active, though it is understood that Domain temporarily paused its listing pending a review of the advertisement's content. A Domain spokesperson stated that property listings often reflect the advertiser's personality and that this vendor had adopted an unconventional approach.
