Staveley Nears Stake Acquisition in West Ham, Valued at $150 Million

Amanda Staveley, a former co-owner of Newcastle United, is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire a stake in West Ham United, with potential developments expected before the current football season commences. Staveley's firm, PCP Capital, which she co-owns with her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, had previously expressed interest in purchasing a share of the east London club.

The couple have reportedly advanced negotiations to buy the 25% shareholding previously held by the late David Gold from his daughter, Vanessa. These shares are estimated to be valued at approximately $150 million.

Staveley, who was instrumental in the Saudi Public Investment Fund's acquisition of Newcastle in 2021, is said to be backed by Middle Eastern and American investors. Her involvement aims to support the club's ambition to return to the Premier League. However, the deal faces a potential hurdle due to a pre-emption process that grants current owners the first right of refusal on any share sales.

Daniel Kretinsky, a Czech businessman who holds a 27% stake in West Ham, had previously agreed in June to purchase about 16% of the Gold family's shares. This transaction has not yet been finalized, and Kretinsky has indicated he does not wish to become the majority owner of the club.

David Sullivan, who previously served as West Ham's co-chairman, retains a 38.8% ownership stake. These shares are currently under review by the independent football regulator, following allegations against Sullivan, which he denies.

Staveley had also been linked with a potential purchase of Tottenham Hotspur after divesting her 10% stake in Newcastle United in 2024. West Ham United has declined to comment on the ongoing negotiations.
