SSE Airtricity to Raise Electricity Bills by Over £70 Annually
The energy provider cited sustained market volatility and increased wholesale costs for the 6.2% price hike affecting domestic customers.
SSE Airtricity will increase its domestic electricity bills by more than £70 per year for customers in Northern Ireland, effective August 1. The company announced a 6.2% price hike, which amounts to approximately 20 pence per day or £71.57 annually for the average household. This change is projected to bring the typical annual cost of home electricity for SSE Airtricity customers to £1,277.07.
In a statement, the company attributed the increase to "sustained market volatility" and elevated wholesale costs. Stephen Gallagher, managing director of SSE Airtricity, emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly and that the contributing factors are beyond the company's control. He added that SSE Airtricity is committed to mitigating the impact of ongoing energy market fluctuations for its customers.
