Sir Ian Wood, a prominent figure in the UK's oil and gas industry and a noted philanthropist, has died at the age of 84, his family announced. Wood, who was based in Aberdeen, was instrumental in growing his family's boat repair business into a major international engineering player, particularly within the North Sea.
He stepped down as chief executive of his company in 2006. The following year, he shifted his focus to charitable endeavors, establishing The Wood Foundation. This organization is dedicated to addressing social and economic inequalities, with a particular emphasis on Scotland and sub-Saharan Africa.
His family shared that he passed away peacefully at home, remembering him for his "kindness, generosity, determination and unwavering commitment to his family."
