Singapore Seizes Luxury Home Tied to Nvidia Chip Smuggling Ring
Authorities confiscated a S$55 million property allegedly funded by illicit earnings from smuggling advanced AI chips subject to US export controls.
Police in Singapore have seized a luxury home valued at S$55 million (approximately $42.5 million USD) as part of an investigation into the alleged smuggling of advanced Nvidia artificial intelligence (AI) chips. Authorities stated that at least two-thirds of the property's purchase price was reportedly funded by illegal earnings.
The seizure is linked to a probe into the illicit trade of servers containing highly sought-after Nvidia chips, which are subject to US export controls. The US Department of Justice has previously identified Singapore as a critical transit point for concealing shipments to China.
The property, located near Singapore's Botanic Gardens, has been subject to an order preventing its sale during the investigation.
Wei Zhaolun, also known as Alan Wei, is accused of money laundering for allegedly using approximately S$38 million in criminal proceeds to finance the home purchase. Wei is the chief executive of Aperia Group, a company that supplies servers and other tech hardware. The BBC has reached out to Aperia Group for comment.
Authorities also confiscated about S$1 million from bank accounts. Since February 2025, a total of four individuals, including Wei, have been charged with fraud and other alleged crimes connected to the case. The individuals are accused of ordering servers from global suppliers under false pretenses, claiming they were for companies where they worked.
Authorities have not specified the destination of the servers. The investigation revealed that servers were purchased from Dell, Super Micro Computer, and Asus. The BBC has contacted these companies for comment.
If convicted of fraud, the four individuals, who face multiple charges, could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
Singapore-based tech firms Luxuriate Your Life and three entities under the Aperia Group are also facing charges. Police have stated this is the first instance of corporate entities being prosecuted in connection with these investigations. The BBC has been unable to reach Luxuriate Your Life for comment.
Singaporean authorities have emphasized their zero-tolerance stance towards such offenses and are committed to upholding the nation's integrity as a global business hub.
Both the US and Singapore have intensified efforts to curb the illegal shipment of Nvidia chips since Washington implemented export restrictions in 2022. These controls were enacted due to concerns that the chips could be utilized by the Chinese military. In 2025, Singaporean authorities reported that servers containing chips under US export controls were believed to have been transited through the island nation. The US has since permitted the sale of certain Nvidia semiconductors to China under specific conditions.
