Silverchair Frontman Daniel Johns Continues Property Sell-Off With $1.3 Million Apartment Listing

Daniel Johns, the frontman of the Australian rock band Silverchair, is continuing to divest his property holdings with the listing of a Darlinghurst apartment valued at $1.3 million. This marks the latest move in a series of significant property sales for the musician.

The two-bedroom apartment, owned by Johns for 16 years, is situated on the top floor of an Art Deco building and offers city and harbor views. He originally purchased the property in 2010 for $670,000, in a joint purchase with his brother Heath. The apartment had been previously rented out for $900 per week. A real estate agent described the unit as occupying the building's "best position."

This sale follows the recent disposition of Johns' coastal property in Merewether, a suburb near Newcastle. The musician listed the vacant lot in May with a price guide between $2.7 million and $3 million. Johns had acquired the 968-square-meter block in 2000 for $1.4 million and subsequently demolished a five-bedroom home on the site in 2025 to "unlock the site's full potential." He had previously divided the cleared property into two lots, selling one for $3.2 million in August of the previous year after it was on the market for 24 days.

Johns described the Merewether property as a "huge part of my life and creativity," but stated it was "time for something new that reflects where I'm at now and what's next."

In 2024, Johns also sold another investment property in the Newcastle area for $2.75 million, after initially listing it for $3 million. He had purchased this four-bedroom, two-bathroom home at the age of 17 for $360,000 in 1996. Realestate.com reports that Johns still owns two other investment properties in Newcastle.
