Sephora to Launch in 100 Marks & Spencer Stores Across Britain
The partnership aims to significantly expand M&S's beauty offerings, bringing a mix of popular and emerging brands to its customers.
Marks & Spencer (M&S) is set to introduce beauty giant Sephora to 100 of its stores across Britain, marking a significant expansion of its beauty sector. The collaboration will establish 'Sephora at M&S' sections within selected M&S high street and retail park locations, with the rollout scheduled to begin next spring.
This partnership represents M&S's first foray into a 'shop-in-shop' concept. Previously, the retailer primarily stocked third-party brands like Jaeger and Nobody's Child. The new arrangement will allow customers to purchase a curated selection of established and emerging beauty brands, including exclusive products across skincare, makeup, and fragrance, available both in-store and online.
The move aligns with M&S's ongoing strategy to revamp its fashion, beauty, and home divisions. The company had previously signaled its intent to bolster its beauty presence during the summer reopening of its refurbished Oxford Street store.
John Lyttle, managing director of fashion, home & beauty at M&S, highlighted the strategic importance of the beauty category. "Beauty is an important category for M&S, with the potential to attract new customers to shop with us and give existing customers the opportunity to shop with us more often," he stated. "Our partnership with Sephora will sit at the heart of our future beauty offer, combining Sephora's specialist expertise with the strength of the M&S brand, our store estate and our growing digital platform."
Sephora, which entered the British market in 2022 following its acquisition of the Feelunique website, stocks a variety of brands including Hailey Bieber's Rhode. The retailer has recently announced the opening of four new UK stores.
This collaboration is expected to broaden M&S's beauty assortment, which currently features an own-brand perfume range alongside brands like Clinique, Medicube, and popular Korean skincare products. The initiative marks a concerted effort to capture a larger share of the UK beauty market, estimated to be worth £5.2 billion, where M&S currently holds a 1.3 percent share.
Sarah Boyd, managing director of Sephora UK, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "Together, we can re-define what high street beauty means for customers across the UK, bringing the very best curated brand and beauty experience to the M&S stores to complement their food, fashion and home expertise." She added, "We are excited to introduce our incredible beauty advisors to the stores to provide a truly personalised experience, and to reach customers in more communities where they already live, shop and spend their time."
Sephora's arrival in the UK has previously generated significant customer interest, evidenced by large crowds at store openings in Manchester and Birmingham.
According to Anne Ashworth, a business columnist, Sephora's appeal lies in its "glamour and its multi-generational appeal." She noted that visits to Sephora are often viewed as an "experience" by daughters, mothers, and grandmothers alike, with customers willing to queue for the opportunity to try and buy popular and Instagram-featured products. The retailer's success is attributed to its diverse mix of high-end, mid-market, and own-label brands, as well as its adaptability, including recent expansions onto platforms like TikTok Shop.
