Schiehallion Trust Sees Net Asset Value Surge Driven by SpaceX and Bending Spoons IPOs
The investment trust's value increased 29 percent in six months, with future gains anticipated from Anthropic's potential public offering.
The net asset value of the Schiehallion investment trust experienced a significant increase of 29 percent in the six months leading up to July. This growth was primarily fueled by the successful stock market debuts of SpaceX and the Italian technology firm Bending Spoons.
Schiehallion, with a net asset value of £2.2 billion, is also positioned to benefit from the anticipated initial public offering of AI company Anthropic, known for its Claude chatbot.
However, Schiehallion's managers, Peter Singlehurst and Robert Natzler, have cautioned that artificial intelligence valuations remain at elevated levels. This observation has led to a deliberate and careful approach regarding new investments within the sector.
Despite an 87 percent surge in its share price over the past year, Schiehallion is currently trading at a 14 percent discount to its net asset value. This discount reflects ongoing investor concerns about the trust's substantial exposure to technology stocks.
Beyond SpaceX and Bending Spoons, Schiehallion's portfolio includes significant stakes in other prominent companies such as ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, the digital bank Revolut, and Vinted, a platform for reselling second-hand clothing.
