Saudi Aramco Helicopter Crash Kills 14

At least 14 people were killed Sunday when a Saudi Aramco helicopter crashed in the eastern Saudi city of Ras Tanura. All aboard were Saudi nationals, according to a statement from the world's largest oil company.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m. local time (3 a.m. GMT). The cause of the crash is currently unknown, and local media reported that an investigation has been launched.

The helicopter belonged to Saudi Aramco, a company majority-owned by the Saudi Arabian government. Ras Tanura is home to one of the Middle East's largest refineries, with a daily capacity of 550,000 barrels, and is a critical part of the country's energy sector.

This incident occurs as Gulf nations aim to increase oil output amid disruptions caused by Iranian attacks and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and gas exports. The Saudi government has not indicated any connection between the crash and hostile actions. Iranian attacks have previously targeted energy facilities in the Gulf, including refineries in Ras Tanura, Jubail, Yanbu, and Riyadh, which had disrupted production operations earlier in the year.

Saudi Arabia, a leading global crude exporter producing over 10 million barrels per day, has faced challenges in maintaining supply and managing prices due to the conflict. Saudi Aramco has reportedly rerouted some oil exports via pipeline to circumvent the Strait of Hormuz. The company announced on Friday that crude oil loading at its Ras Tanura terminal had resumed after months of prolonged fighting involving Iran, the U.S., and Israel.
