Samsung Profits Soar on AI Chip Demand
South Korean tech giant forecasts a 19-fold profit increase driven by global demand for artificial intelligence memory chips.
Samsung Electronics anticipates a significant surge in profits, projecting a 19-fold increase for the second quarter of the year, primarily fueled by the escalating global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) memory chips. The South Korean technology conglomerate forecasts an operating profit of 89 trillion won (approximately $58 billion) for the period spanning April to June.
This projected financial performance marks Samsung's third consecutive quarter of record operating profits. Major South Korean companies typically release earnings forecasts to provide guidance to investors ahead of their detailed financial reports, which are expected later in July. The company's latest forecast comes amid a persistent imbalance in the semiconductor market, where demand continues to outstrip supply, leading to increased chip prices.
Samsung holds a prominent position as one of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers, producing chips for major technology firms, including Nvidia and Google. The shares of these major tech companies have experienced substantial growth in recent months, directly correlating with the surging demand for advanced semiconductors. Samsung's own stock price has more than doubled since the beginning of the year, and its South Korean competitor, SK Hynix, has seen its shares jump by over 200%.
